Track & Field Gets Three Wins at LSU Alumni Gold

BATON ROUGE – The Green Wave track & field teams posted three victories at the highly competitive LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Track on Saturday, and five athletes set new personal bests in their events.
Rebekah Markel continued her winning ways, clearing 4.20 meters in a jump-off tiebreaker to claim victory in the event over Northwestern State's Reagan Darbonne. Markel got over 3.90 meters and 4.05 meters before winning the jump-off at that 4.20 meter height (13-9.25). Alex Potts and Nastja Modic took third and fourth place, respectively, with cleared heights of 3.90 meters. Rose Brutkiewicz was seventh with a clearance of 3.60 meters.
Tahja Mitchell was another big winner for the Green Wave, taking the 400-meter B section crown with a time of 54.17 seconds. That mark broke her personal best by more than a full second and put her into the team's top 10 all-time.
Krya Ness-Lanckriet was 25th in the field in 58.05 seconds, and Oneke Gwan was 26th in 58.07 seconds.
Later in the A section, Maya Harewood came in 17th place behind a time of 55.35 seconds.
The Green Wave's last win of the competition came thanks to the feet of Evans Kipchumba. The freshman took the 5K title, racing to a time of 15:17.83. Carlos Zervigon was close behind him in third place thanks to a time of 15:33.77, and Andrew Kipkemboi came in 14th in 16:34.86. Jamie Polakoff was 16th in 17:05.02.
In the women's 5K, Mary Catherine Stovall knocked eight seconds off her personal best, finishing in 18:24.90 to place eighth in the field.
Trina Malej took third place in the triple jump by reached 12.38 meters (40-7.5). Malej reached that new outdoor personal best on her third jump of the day after reaching 12.01 and 12.20 meters on her first two attempts.
In the men's 100, Devin Glenn had a tremendous showing in his first race of the season. The senior came in 10th place, clocking in at 10.75 seconds to come just .14 seconds away from his personal best. Jalen LaCour took 36th place in 11.19 seconds, and Jorien Vallen was 39th in 11.72 seconds in his first race of the season.
Glenn's day was not done, though, as he helped the Green Wave's 4x100 team to an 11th-place showing with a time of 41.30 seconds. Glenn, Corey Dauphine, Jaetavian Toles and LaCour made up the Green Wave quartet with a time just missed the school's all-time top 10.
Kyah Loyd was just a tenth of a second shy of her personal best in the 100 hurdles, racing to a time of 13.55 seconds for 11th place in the A section. The time was her new fastest this season and would put her tied her 32nd in the NCAA East Region before today's results.
The men's 1500 saw Tom Coe take second place, just missing the four-minute barrier with a time of 4:00.30. Pierce Hill was 13th in 4:04.74, and Joshua Cheruyot was 34th with a time of 4:31.69.
Louise Jones took fifth in the 400 hurdles, racing to a time of 1:02.52, setting a new PR for the freshman by more than a full second. Pauline Helm was 11th with a time of 1:04.37, a new personal best by more than two seconds.
Reid Belanger scored a sixth-place finish in the 1500 B section, breaking the five-minute mark with a time of 4:59.98, less than half a second away from her personal best.
Later in the A section of the 1500, Jennifer LaMori took eighth with a time of 4:42.76.
James Thomas Watson threw the javelin 56.74 meters for a 10th-place showing.
In the 800, Paige Fatland was 14th with a time of 2:24.89. In the 200, Loyd came in 24th with a time of 24.93 seconds.
The women's 4x400 squad of Mitchell, Harewood, Helm and Loyd closed out the day with a 12th-place finish in the race in 3:47.75.
Tulane returns to action next weekend, taking on the Southern Miss Open in Hattiesburg on Friday and Saturday.
