Apr 3, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to four straight with a 4-2 win over Nicholls State and a 5-2 victory against the University of New Orleans in a doubleheader at the City Park Tennis Center.
In the first match of the day against Nicholls, the Green Wave got a 6-2 doubles win on court two from Daniela La Fuente and Laura Fabrizi to set the tone early, but the Colonels (3-12) countered with a pair of 6-3 wins on courts one and three, respectively, to steal the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.
Tulane scored the first two singles wins of the day to take its first advantage of the day, 2-1, when Ivone Alvaro won in straight sets from the No. 3 spot in the lineup and Christina Sisti did the same from the No. 5 position.
Nicholls would tie the match one more time with a straight-set win on court one, but La Fuente closed out court two in straight sets and Adelaide Lavery bounced back for a three-set win on court six, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, to clinch the match and give the Wave their third straight victory.
The Green Wave got off to a much better start against New Orleans on the back end of the doubleheader, collecting a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to claim an early 1-0 edge.
Despite the Privateers (9-8) getting a win in abbreviated fashion on court one, Tulane got a response from Alvaro with a 6-0, 6-3 win from the No. 3 spot, followed by a 6-4, 6-3 triumph by Sisti at No. 5 to give the Green Wave a 3-1 lead.
Lavery was next to finish, clinching the match with a hard-fought, 6-2, 7-6 win from the No. 6 position, which included a 15-13 win in the tiebreaker.
UNO got on the board with a three-set win on court two, but Fabrizi completed a comeback on court four, 5-6, 7-6(0), 1-0(8), to give the Wave their fifth point of the contest.
Tulane heads to Charleston, S.C., for its final two regular-season matches, beginning with a 2 p.m. (CT) match at Charleston Southern on Sunday, April 7, followed by a 1 p.m., contest at College of Charleston on Monday.
