NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave track & field team's regular season ends this week with with one runner in California on Thursday and the rest of the team competing Friday in Houston.
Emmanuel Rotich will be headed back out west Thursday to run in the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford. His 3K steeplechase will be held at approximately 9:30 p.m. central time, and it will be his final race before the conference championship meet next weekend.
Live stats for Rotich's race can be found on Stanford's website.
Action in Houston, meanwhile, begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the javelin. Field events continue through the rest of the evening with the triple jump ending things for Tulane at 5:30 p.m.
Track events will begin in Houston at 5:45 p.m. with the 4x100 relay, which Tulane's women won last weekend in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Events will run until 8:45 p.m. when another relay – the 4x400 – closes out the meet.
The Green Wave will be facing off against athletes from Houston, Rice and several smaller schools along with unattached athletes.
For the Tom Tellez Invitational, live results can be found here.
Last weekend in Hattiesburg, Tulane won four events including both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on the women's side. Rebekah Markel won the pole vault for the fifth time in six competitions this outdoor season, and Rotich claimed a victory in the 1500 in his first 1500 of the season. Tulane student-athletes had six personal records on the day as well.
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, Tulane has 11 marks that would currently score at the conference championship including three from Rotich in multiple distance events. As the league standings are set now, three pole vaulters (Markel, Alex Potts, Nastja Modic) would score in the meet as would Tahja Mitchell and Maya Harewood in the 400-meter dash.
Regionally, Tulane would have five student-athletes qualify for the NCAA East Regional if the season ended today. In the 3K steeplechase, Rotich would be qualified as would Markel, Potts and Modic in the pole vault. Kyah Loyd is currently in qualifying position in the 100 hurdles.
Following their trip to Houston, Tulane will get ready for the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 10-12 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
