Sep 17, 2019 | Women's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tulane women's golf team finished ninth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The Green Wave finished with a team score of 34-over 886 after three rounds at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. Junior Jennifer Rosenberg and freshman Carlota Palacios led the Olive and Blue as they tied for 25th at six-over 219.
"Today was a struggle to finish out the round," Tulane head coach Stew Burke said. "We dropped a lot of shots coming in and our finish reflected that. We've got a break before our next event to work on cleaning up the basic errors to be ready to play in Lexington."
Rosenberg shot even-par 71 in the first round, one-under 70 in the second round and seven-over 78 in the third round. She logged nine birdies on the tournament.
Palacios finished the tournament with a round of two-over 73 after posting a one-over 72 in the first round and a three-over 74 in the second round. The freshman recorded nine birdies over the two days of play.
Senior Haydyn Gibson closed the tournament tied for 45th at 11-over 224. She logged a six-over 77 in the final round to go along with a career-best three-under 68 and an eight-over 79 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Gibson recorded a team-high 10 birdies in the three rounds of play.
Freshman Sandra Vazquez ended her first collegiate tournament tied for 61st at 16-over 229. She shot six-over 77 in the final round. Vazquez had six birdies on the tournament.
Freshman Hanna Liu tied for 74th at 21-over 234. She shot four-over 75 in the final round. Liu registered seven birdies over the three rounds.
Kent State took the team title with a score of 22-under 830. The Golden Flashes' Karoline Stormo and Pimnipa Panthong won the individual championship at eight-under 205.
The two-day event was held at the par 71, 5,900-yard Cherokee Country Club. This year's field featured three teams in the top 50 in No. 10 Kent State, No. 40 Tennessee and No. 44 Maryland.
The Green Wave will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
