
Track and Field Heads Back to Birmingham for Samford Invitational

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane track and field team is gearing up for its third weekend of competition this spring, headed to Birmingham, Alabama on Friday to compete in the Samford Invitational.
The Green Wave are set to face host Samford, South Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alabama, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, UAB, Southern Miss and North Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex. This is the second time this season that the Olive and Blue will race at the CrossPlex before heading there again at the end of February for the American Athletic Conference Championship.
The field events begin with the long jump at 10:30 a.m., followed by the shot put at 1:30 p.m. and the high jump, pole vault and triple jump at 2 p.m. The 60-meter dash kicks off the running events at 12 p.m. and is followed by the 60-meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m. Next up is the one mile at 1:30 p.m., the 400-meter dash at 2:10 p.m. and the 800-meter at 2:30 p.m. The 200-meter dash is set to start at 3 p.m. before the 3000-meter run begins at 3:30 p.m. Tulane wraps up its day with the 4x400 meter relay at 4:10 p.m.
Twenty one members of Tulane's team are making the trip this weekend, with one competing in the 60-meter dash, seven running in the 200-meter dash, six racing in the 400-meter dash and two facing off in the 800-meter, one-mile, 3000-meter and 60-meter hurdles races. One team will run in the 4x400 meter relay, in addition to two athletes competing in the high jump, pole vault, long jump and triple jump and one participating in the shot put.
In their last time out, the Green Wave recorded two first-place finishes to total 12 top 10 performances and add one new top-five program record.
