
Men’s Tennis Hosts Jackson State in Spring-Opening Doubleheader

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team begins its pursuit of a fifth straight NCAA Tournament bid with the start of its 2020 spring season which begins with a doubleheader against Jackson State on Wednesday, January 22 at the City Park Tennis Center.
The first match is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the second contest at 2 p.m.
Tulane returns an experienced core led by the senior leadership of Luis Erlenbusch, Ewan Moore, Esses and Ruetzel. Juniors Akos Kotorman and Hamish Stewart also return as letterwinners for the Green Wave. Jacobson, a redshirt freshman, as well as Charlie Barry, Henry Lovett and Joseph Daw round out the Wave's 2020 spring roster.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Green Wave possess three players listed in the ITA's national singles rankings, led by senior Ewan Moore at No. 32. Senior Dane Esses holds the No. 47 spot, while junior Hamish Stewart stands at No. 90.
SPRING NOTES
Head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras enters his 11th season at the helm after leading the Green Wave to the program's first ITA National Team Indoor Championship appearance and its fourth straight NCAA Tournament selection in 2019. Tulane has finished in the top 45 of the final ITA national team rankings in each of the last five years.
Juniors Hamish Stewart and Akos Kotorman combine as Tulane's best returning doubles tandem after posting an 11-1 record at the No. 2 spot in the lineup last spring, including a 3-0 mark against American Athletic Conference foes. The duo has won seven consecutive dual doubles matches dating back to 2019.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Tulane will play a minimum of 10 teams that earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2019, including Stanford, California/Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Texas, TCU, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, UCF and USF. Texas claimed the 2019 NCAA title, while TCU reached the quarterfinals. California, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Stanford all reached the round of 16.

The Tigers (0-2) enter Wednesday's match coming off consecutive losses to Eastern Illinois (4-1) at home and on the road at Ole Miss (7-0) last week. Jackson State posted a 6-23 record last spring and reached the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament.
