Men's Tennis Cruises in Doubleheader Sweep of Jackson State
Jan 22, 2020 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team opened its 2020 spring season in dominant fashion, defeating Jackson State, 7-0, in consecutive matches to complete a doubleheader sweep at the City Park Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
Tulane (2-0) has now won its first two dual matches in eight consecutive seasons.
Overall for the day, seniors Ewan Moore, Luis Erlenbusch and Tim Ruetzel, as well as juniors Hamish Stewart and Akos Kotorman, recorded 2-0 records in singles matches. Stewart and Kotorman were the only doubles team to win both of their matches, as the duo extended its dual doubles winning streak to nine in a row dating back to 2019.
The Green Wave won 11 of the 12 singles decisions across the two team matches in straight sets, while dropping just two games in their four combined doubles victories.
Up next, the Green Wave heads west to compete in the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend in Palo Alto, Calif. Tulane faces 11th-ranked Stanford on Saturday, January 25 at 4 p.m. (CT), and will face the winner or loser between 13th-ranked California and Miami (Fla.) on Sunday.
