Men's Tennis Falls to Miami at ITA Kickoff
Jan 26, 2020 | Men's Tennis
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Tulane men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to the University of Miami on the final day of the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Stanford University on Sunday afternoon.
The Green Wave (2-2) fell behind early in doubles, as the Hurricanes earned a convincing 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Hamish Stewart and Akos Kotorman continued their winning ways however, finishing off a 6-3 win on court two, extending their dual doubles winning streak to 10 in a row dating back to 2019 and leaving the doubles point hanging in the balance on court three.
Miami maintained a break advantage at the No. 3 spot to hang on for a 6-4 victory and claim a 1-0 advantage in the overall match.
The Hurricanes quickly pushed the Wave to the brink with a pair of straight-set singles wins on courts three and five, respectively, but Tulane remained in the fight with a pair of counter punches from Stewart and Luis Erlenbusch.
Ranked 90th nationally, Stewart closed out Dane Dunlap, 6-2, 7-6(4), on court two, before Erlenbusch took down Bojan Janulovski, 6-4, 6-4, on court four to cut the Green Wave's deficit to just one, 3-2. Unfortunately for the Wave, Miami battled for a three-set win on court one to clinch the match.
Up next, Tulane heads to Baton Rouge for a road contest at LSU on Friday, January 31. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
