NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane beach volleyball team has officially set its schedule for the 2020 season, first-year Green Wave head coach Eyal Zimet announced Tuesday.
Tulane will match up against 11 nationally ranked opponents in the team's ninth season, competing in nine matches against Top 10 teams per the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll in May of 2019.
"We are extremely excited to start our first spring season together. Following a solid fall training period when we got to know the team better and vice versa, we will look to compete against the best in the nation in multiple locations and conditions," Zimet said. "I am looking to see how these challenges will forge our new team together and build our strength as the season progress. Our schedule this season provides us with every opportunity to prove to ourselves where we are and grow toward where we want to be. I can't wait."
The Olive and Blue are set to open their season in Birmingham, Alabama on Feb. 22, facing North Alabama and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) opponent UAB (RV).
Heading to Baton Rouge the following weekend, the Green Wave will compete against No. 3 LSU, defending national champion UCLA, Houston Baptist, Texas A&M Kingsville and Spring Hill College on Feb. 29 and March 1.
Tulane remains in New Orleans on March 6 and 7, making the short trip to UNO (RV) to match up against Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Southern Miss, Nicholls, Spring Hill and first-year CCSA opponent Louisiana-Monroe (RV).
From March 20-22, the Green Wave will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama to participate in a tournament with matches against UAB, No. 4 Florida State, No. 17 Florida Atlantic, No. 15 Georgia State, No. 18 TCU, LSU, No. 16 South Carolina, Southern Miss and UNO (RV).
After a quick five-day turnaround, Tulane will head to Miami to take on a talented slate of opponents — eight of which finished the 2019 season nationally ranked — from March 27-29. The Olive and Blue will face No. 9 Florida International, FSU, FAU, TCU, Stetson, North Florida, Nicholls, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 11 California Berkeley, UCLA and Stanford (RV).
Following five road trips to start the season, the Olive and Blue bring action home to the White Sands Beach Volleyball Courts on April 7, hosting Southeastern Louisiana, UNO and Southern Miss.
The Green Wave wrap up their regular season on the road, heading to Columbia, South Carolina from April 10-11 to take on No. 16 South Carolina, Stetson and College of Charleston (RV).
The team kicks off postseason competition in the CCSA Conference Tournament from April 17-19 in Huntsville, Alabama. The NCAA Championships will be held two weeks later, from May 1-3, in Gulf Shores.
Tulane finished the 2019 season with a 16-18 record on the sand, taking down one nationally ranked opponent. The team returns 10 players from last season, adding three freshman and three newcomers to the Green Wave roster under the leadership of first-year head coach Eyal Zimet and assistant coach Katie Horton.
