HOUSTON, Texas — The Tulane indoor track and field team wrapped up its weekend in Houston, recording three personal best times on Saturday in the Houston P5 & Mid-Major Invitational.
"I'm pleased with many of the performances that our team produced here in Houston this weekend," head coach Eric Peterson said. "It was a new experience for our athletes, competing in a different venue for the first time, and I thought they handled it all pretty well. Trina [Malej] had her best series of jumps today in the triple jump. She seems to be getting better every week and her level of consistency is impressive. We also had a strong performance in the 60-meter hurdles from Kyah [Loyd] this weekend. She competed against a couple of the best hurdlers in the world and the AAC defending champion and responded well in the final."
Continuing on with her success this season, sophomore Trina Malej highlighted the day with a win in the triple jump, also recording a new career-high with a distance of 12.61 meters (41-4.50) to beat out her previous personal record of 12.52 meters.
Senior Mary Catherine Stovall crossed the finish line in third place in the 5000-meter run, finishing in 18:45.19 minutes, less than three seconds short of catching the second-place runner.
Junior Carlos Zervigon was impressive in the 5000-meter run, recording a time of 15:24.59 to finish in fourth overall. Zervigon notched a time of 4:34.05 in the mile, finishing in 42nd overall.
Just short of tying her career-best height in the high jump was sophomore Olivia Hicks, who finished in eighth overall at 1.65 meters (5-5.00).
Adding another top 10 finish for Tulane was junior Bridgid Selfors, who earned a new personal record with a time of 10:00.53 in the 3000-meter, good for a 10th-place standing.
Junior Kristina Leggas earned a new career-best distance with a 3.85 meter (12-7.50) mark in the pole vault, standing in ninth out of 22. Sophomore Nastja Modic also recorded a 3.85 meter distance (12-7.50), checking in in 12th overall.
Graduate student Tom Coe rounded the track with a time of 8:43.24 in the 3000-meter run, good for an 18th-place finish. Coe also ran in the mile, finishing in 19th with a time of 4:21.15.
To wrap up the running events for the weekend, the Green Wave 4x400 relay team made up of senior Maya Harewood, junior Kyah Loyd, sophomore Oneke Gwan and sophomore Hunter Robinson came in seventh with a time of 3:50.15.
Freshman Maren Butler threw for a distance of 11.54 meters in the shot put, finishing in 20th out of 36.
Junior Asja Thompson won her heat in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.66 (29th) in the finals. Sophomore Aldrianna Dupree followed Thompson with a time of 25:71 (32nd).
The Green Wave head back on the road next weekend, traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the competitive Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
