
Track and Field Moves Up in Record Book to Close Weekend

LINCOLN, Nebraska — The Tulane indoor track and field team moved up in the program record books in two events after Saturday's performance in the Frank Sevigne Invitational, as the Green Wave took four top five spots and broke four personal records to wrap up the meet at the Devaney Center.
"Our team continues to improve in all areas. The performances from Trina [Malej], Kyah [Loyd], Brandi [Hughes] and our 4x400 relay team are significant because they rank high among the conference leaders is those respective events," head coach Eric Peterson said. "These athletes are doing a great job of leading our team as we march through our schedule. Each week we are tested and expect improvement from all of our athletes. This weekend, many of our athletes came through with strong performances."
Continuing on with her impressive jumping performance this season was sophomore Trina Malej, who took fourth overall in the triple jump with a career-high distance of 12.85 meters (42-2.00). That mark moves Malej from sixth to fourth overall in the Tulane record books.
The 4x400 relay team, consisting of senior Maya Harewood, junior Kyah Loyd, sophomore Louise Jones and sophomore Hunter Robinson, broke into the Tulane record books with the eighth best time in program history at 3:44.09. The squad won their heat, finishing in third of 18 teams.
Loyd and senior Brandi Hughes came back out to run the 60-meter hurdle finals on Saturday, with Loyd tying her personal best time of 8.46 seconds to finish in fourth and Hughes coming in right behind her with a sixth-place finish at 8.50 seconds.
Sophomore Aldrianna Dupree came out strong in the 60-meter finals, crossing the finish line in fifth-place with a time of 7.61 seconds.
Also earning a personal best by more than three seconds in the 800-meter was junior Pauline Helm, who finished with a time of 2:15.26 to stand in 14th of 29 in the race.
Though junior Bridgid Selfors and senior Mary Catherine Stovall were faced with the challenge of running the 5000-meter and 3000-meter races in back to back days this weekend, the two earned three personal records in four races.
Stovall notched a career-best time in the 3000 meter at 10:32.40 (26th), after also doing so in the 5000 meter on Friday with a time of 18:28.19 (12th). Also earning a PR on Friday was Selfors, who came out and finished in 15th overall in the 3000 meter to wrap up the meet with a 10:19.54 mark.
Wrapping up the weekend in the 200-meter dash was Robinson, Harewood, Dupree and senior Jessica Duckett. Robinson led the way for the Olive and Blue in the sprint, finishing in 18th of 48 with a time of 24.92 seconds, and was followed by Harewood in 20th (25.00 seconds), Dupree in 26th (25.24) and Duckett in 35th (25.62 seconds).
Freshman Maren Butler threw for 12.98 meters (42-7.00) in the shot put for a 14th-place finish in the meet, while sophomore Olivia Hicks finished the high jump with a 1.55 meter mark, standing in 15th overall.
The Green Wave head to Lubbock, Texas next weekend, competing in the Texas Tech Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
