
Track and Field Closes Weekend at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Tulane indoor track and field team wrapped up its weekend in the Texas Tech Shooutout, adding two personal best marks and four top five finishes.
"We are making significant progress in areas of strength on this team," head coach Eric Peterson said. "The triple jump, pole vault and hurdles are three events that we will rely on moving forward. Trina [Malej] and Nastja [Modic] jumped very well today, both achieving new personal records and competitive efforts here at this meet. In the hurdles, Brandi [Hughes] and Kyah [Loyd] are developing strong, consistent performances and look poised to break through even more as the conference meet approaches."
The Green Wave were successful in the field events on Saturday, as sophomore Trina Malej finished third in the triple jump with a new career-best distance of 12.95 meters (42-6) and sophomore Nastja Modic recorded a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a personal record of 4.10 meters (13-5.25).
Senior Brandi Hughes notched a season-best time of 8.45 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles finals, finishing fourth overall. Junior Kyah Loyd was right behind Hughes, crossing the finish line in 8.47 seconds. Graduate student Jessica Duckett also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, earning a time of 8.94 seconds in the qualifying round to stand in 11th.
After finishing third in the 60-meter qualifying round, sophomore Aldrianna Dupree notched a time of 7.61 seconds in the first round to take the 15th overall spot in the standings.
Earning a height of 3.85 meters (12-7.5) in the pole vault open was Kristina Leggas, who finished fifth of 15 in the event.
Senior Maya Harewood led the way for the Olive and Blue in the 400 meter, finishing in 55.94 seconds (20th). Sophomore Hunter Robinson was next up for Tulane, at 56.48 seconds (27th), and was followed by sophomore Louise Jones at 56.94 seconds (31st) and sophomore Oneke Gwan at 57.14 seconds (32nd).
Junior Pauline Helm ran to a 13th-place finish in the 600 meter, earning a time of 1:27.78 in her first time running the race.
Junior Jordyn Lesh competed alongside Malej in the triple jump, earning a distance of 11.14 meters (36-6.75). The Green Wave wrapped up their day at the Sports Performance Center in the 4x400 meter relay, as Hughes, Duckett, Dupree and Jones finished with a time of 3:51.41 (14th).
The team is back in action next week as it heads to down the road to Baton Rouge for the LSU Twilight.
"We have a lot of work to do before our team is maximizing our ability across the board," Peterson said. "Continuing to challenge and test the rest of the team will remain our focus as we work through our schedule."
