Women's Tennis Cruises in 5-2 Win Over Nicholls
Feb 12, 2020 | Women's Tennis
The Green Wave (6-2) put the pressure on the Colonels (1-4) early in doubles, jumping out to big leads on courts one and three, respectively. Mackenzie Clark and Lauren Gish cruised to a 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, and despite a 6-2 defeat on court two, Lahari Yelamachili and Christina Sisti were close behind in finishing off a 6-3 win on court three to clinch the doubles point.
Despite Nicholls collecting its first team point by walkover on court six, Tulane continued to roll in singles, as Gish eased her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lingfeng Gu on court four to put the Olive and Blue back in front, 2-1. Ranked 103rd nationally, Clark proceeded to finish off Simona Maksimovic, 6-2, 6-1, on court one to push the Colonels to the brink.
Sisti was next to finish, and despite trailing 4-3 in the second set, finished off a 6-3, 6-4 victory to clinch the match on court five. Adelaide Lavery tallied the Green Wave's final point of the afternoon with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Laura Lopez on court two.
