NEW ORLEANS, La. – After an impressive start to the season, the Tulane baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, taking the show on the road for the first time to take on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns at Russo Park at 6 p.m.
Â
The first of two in-season meetings for the two sides will have an audio stream available through Tulane All-Access, with Voice of the Green Wave Andrew Allegretta calling all the action from Lafayette. A live stream will be available through ESPN+, with links to that as well as live stats being found on the baseball schedule page at TulaneGreenWave.com.
Â
For the third consecutive year, the Green Wave opened the regular season with a sweep of an opponent in taking all three games over the weekend against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Tulane outscored the Eagles 18-8 over the course of the weekend, hitting .304 as a team through the first trio of games this season.
Â
For his efforts this weekend, redshirt senior Ty Johnson was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after hitting .556 at the plate with a .692 on-base percentage. Johnson and fellow redshirt senior Grant Mathews tied for the team lead in hits after the weekend with five, as Mathews drove in five to pace all players.
Â
On the mound, Tulane held FGCU to a .200 hitting percentage and finished the weekend with an ERA of 1.38. Paced by Braden Olthoff's 10 strikeouts, the staff struck out 29 Eagles batters on the weekend, as the relief pitchers used combined to allow just one unearned run between them.
Â
The Green Wave and Cajuns renew their in-state pleasantries Wednesday and will do so again April 1 back in New Orleans. The two teams split the two meetings in 2019, as each side won at their home venue.
Â
Louisiana-Lafayette will play Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond on Tuesday before taking on the Green Wave Wednesday night, as the Cajuns dropped all three of their games last weekend to the Lions and Louisiana Tech to start the season 0-3. Â
