Tulane Sailing Wraps Up Competition at the Charleston Spring Coed Regatta
Mar 8, 2020 | Sailing
CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The No. 20 Tulane sailing team concluded competition on Sunday at the Charleston Spring Coed Regatta with the coed team finishing in seventh place (243 points) and the women's team taking home 10th.
"We made some solid strides today, and overall I'm encouraged from this weekend," Tulane head coach Charles Higgins said. "We still have to get better with our situational awareness, but we are certainly moving in the right direction."
The women's squad defeated College of Charleston, Old Dominion, UC Berkeley, Washington Collefe, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Ohio University, while the coed squad checked in ahead of UC Berkeley, Washington College, FSU, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Ohio.
Caroline Benson and Caelan Watts skippered the coed boats, alongside crews Quinn Keenan and Kate Lenhard. Skipper Ciara Rodriguez-Horan sailed alongside crew Amelia Schofield in the women's races, along with skipper Katherine Byrnes and crew Josie Larkin.
"We gained valuable experience and learned a lot this weekend," Higgins said. "Those lessons are going to help us down the road, and we can't wait to get back at it."
Rodriguez-Horan and Grace Siwicki highlighted the afternoon, as both jumped to second in their respective divisions.
"Ciara and Grace were on a tear this weekend, never finishing outside the top ten. In fact they finished outside the top 5 only twice," Higgins added.
Tulane returns to action on Saturday at the Southern Yacht Club for the Garner-Tullis Team Race.
