Men's Tennis Starts 2021 Home Against Alcorn State, UTSA

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team begins its pursuit of a fifth straight NCAA Tournament bid with the start of its 2021 spring season which begins with a doubleheader against Alcorn State on Thursday, January 21 and another home match the following afternoon against UTSA at the City Park Tennis Center.
The first match against Alcorn State is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the second contest at 2 p.m. The Green Wave will then host UTSA at 1 p.m., on Friday.
SCOUTING ALCORN STATE
The Braves (0-2) enter Thursday's doubleheader coming off a pair of 7-0 road defeats at LSU on Jan. 17. Alcorn State posted a 2-15 overall record last spring. The Braves' last matchup against the Green Wave came in January 2019, as Tulane earned a pair of 7-0 victories in the season-opening doubleheader sweep.
SCOUTING UTSA
The Roadrunners (1-0) enter Friday's match coming off an impressive 5-2 home win over Rice on Jan. 16 in their season opener. Last spring, UTSA posted a 5-6 overall record, but posted consecutive winning seasons in each of the two years prior. Senior Juri Reckow leads the Roadrunners after posting a 9-0 singles mark at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup last season.
VETERAN CORE
Tulane returns an experienced core comprised of the leadership of fifth-year seniors Ewan Moore and Luis Erlenbusch, as well as seniors Hamish Stewart and Akos Kotorman. Sophomores Henry Lovett and Benji Jacobson round out the letterwinners back from last year's roster. Combined, the Green Wave's four seniors have produced 232 singles wins and 154 doubles victories.
FRESH FACES
The Green Wave welcome a massive influx of young talent including redshirt freshman Charlie Barry and true freshmen Rafael de Alba, Fynn Kuenkler, Jeremy Schifris and Billy Suarez.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Green Wave possess two players listed in the ITA's national singles rankings, led by senior Hamish Stewart at No. 40 and fifth-year senior Ewan Moore at No. 53.
THE BOORAS FACTOR
Head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras enters his 12th season at the helm of the program. He has led the Green Wave to four straight NCAA Tournament selections in 2019, while Tulane has finished in the top 50 of the final ITA national team rankings in each of the last six years.
