Oct 13, 2021 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball sophomore guard Jaylen Forbes was recognized by the American Athletic Conference on Wednesday, as he was selected to the league's preseason all-conference team.
Forbes received the preseason honor after he finished the 2020-21 season averaging a team-leading 16.4 points and 5.3 rebounds to go with 1.3 steals per game while making 56 shots beyond the 3-point arc at a 36-percent clip. The Florence, Mississippi, native finished the regular season first in The American in minutes per game (36.1), fourth in 3-pointers made, fifth in scoring and seventh in steals per contest. Additionally, he shot 100-of-121 (.826) at the free throw line.
After transferring to Tulane following one season at the University of Alabama, Forbes was the Green Wave's leading scorer 14 times while reaching double-figures in 18 of the team's 21 contests. He has tallied at least 20 points on seven occasions and eclipsed 30 points twice.
In his top performance of the season, Forbes scored a career-high 37 points and made seven consecutive treys at Cincinnati on Feb. 26. Those 37 were the most by a Tulane player in a regulation game since 1997, and his seven threes tied for the second most in a game in program history.
Forbes was Tulane's first all-conference selection since Melvin Frazier Jr., earning a spot on the second team in 2018.
As a team, Tulane was picked to finish tied for ninth in the preseason.
