No. 16 Tulane Bowling Finishes Sixth at Colonial Lanes Classic
Oct 24, 2021 | Women's Bowling
HARAHAN, La. – The pins did not fall in favor of the No. 16-ranked Tulane bowling team on the final day of the Colonial Lanes Classic as the Green Wave ended in sixth place out of 12 teams in the tournament.
The Olive and Blue went 0-3 Sunday, dropping their overall tournament record to 7-6 to ultimately land sixth in the event.
"Today just didn't come together for the team," said head coach Hayley Veitch. "We didn't take opportunities when they were given to us. We need to focus on our team communication from the first day and be more confident with our shot making. We can't dwell on our finishing position, but look ahead to the tournament next weekend."
After starting hot taking the first game in match one, Tulane was unable to keep up with No. 9 Louisiana Tech. The Wave battled the Bulldogs tough, but ultimately fell in the next four games dropping the match 1,054-1,023.
Match two was the most competitive of the day for the Olive and Blue as they pushed No. 10 Stephen F. Austin to seven games. Tulane claimed the first and fourth game before coming up with a clutch victory in game six to force the decisive seventh game. However, the Green Wave came up short in that final game losing the match 1,393-1,301.
In match three, Tulane went to battle with No. 4 Vanderbilt with a shot a top five finish on the line for the tournament. Once again, the Wave started well taking the first game from the Commodores, but that would be all for the Olive and Blue as went on to drop their final match 1,070-944.
Tulane ended Sunday with a total pinfall of 3,268 to bring its tournament total to 13,404 for sixth among the competing teams. The Wave averaged 200.1 pins per game in the tournament.
Madison McCall, Jenica Baron and Veronica Petrinec led the team on the final day of competition with McCall posting the best pinfall totaling a 217.3 average per game. Baron and Petrinec followed knocking down averages of 197.7 and 193.3 pins per game.
McCall, Amelia Vasquez and Katharina Mente posted the best overall averages for the tournament each knocking down an average of more than 200 pins per game.
The Green Wave will hit the lanes again Oct. 29-31 in the Adelphi University Classic in Long Island, New York.
