
Tulane Rolls Past Warhawks in Exhibition Game

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University men's basketball team put on a shooting clinic to win 92-61 over Louisiana-Monroe in an exhibition game Friday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave shot 56.7 (38-67) percent from the field while knocking down 10 from beyond the arc en route to the victory.
It was a commanding performance on both ends of the floor for the Olive and Blue as Tulane held the Warhawks to just 36.4 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers. The offense thrived on the other end thanks the strong defensive effort. The Wave turned the 20 turnovers by ULM into easy buckets for 29 points.
Sophomores Jaylen Forbes and Kevin Cross led the Green Wave with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Forbes shot 5-of-9 from three-point range and added a pair of steals defensively while Cross shot 90 (9-of-10) percent from the field and tallied seven assists. Freshman Jalen Cook came up just shy of a double-double in his first action in the Olive and Blue finishing with 12 points and nine assists.
The Green Wave took command of the game at the beginning of the second half by going on a 17-4 run in the first 5:27 out of the locker room. After ULM scored the first bucket of the half, Cross led the charge for Tulane to score 15-unanswered points to build a 20-point advantage.
Tulane opened the game with a hot stroke from the field knocking down four of its first five shots from downtown. The Wave shot 50-percent as a team in the first half to stay in control in front of the Warhawks for all 20 minutes. With 5:40 on the clock Baker gave Tulane its largest lead of the half at 32-24.
ULM cut the deficit back down to three, but the Olive and Blue scored the final five points of the half to take a 41-34 advantage into the locker room. Forbes led the hot shooting for the Green Wave scoring 14 first half points on 5-of-10 shooting including three triples.
Reginald Gee led ULM with 17 points.
The Wave will be back in action on Wednesday, November 3, against Louisiana College at Fogelman in Devlin at 7 p.m.
