Women's Track and Field Finishes Strong in Final SpeedCity Series Meet

HOUSTON — The Tulane women's track and field team posted a number of strong showings at the third and final H-Town SpeedCity Series meet on Saturday at the University of Houston.
Director of cross country and track and field Eric Peterson said, "We wanted to come back from our pause with hard work and good competition. I am proud of the way the team has managed the past two weeks and came back into this competition with pretty good results for us as a program".
Winning the triple jump for the third week in a row was Trina Malej with a noteworthy distance of 12.74m. She has improved her distance in every meet so far this season.
Kyah Loyd earned a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles for the Green Wave with an impressive time of 8.40, tying her finish from the last meet. Loyd also gained a seventh place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.86.
Kristen O'Handley improved her time in the 60m hurdles, earning a time of 8.83 in the preliminary round, moving up in the Tulane record book for a tie for the fifth spot. Later in the day, O'Handley set a personal record in the 200m with a time of 25.20, and that was good for ninth place.
Migle Muraskaite also finished with a competitive time of 8.86 in the preliminary round of the 60m hurdles. Muraskaite gained a new personal best in the 200m as well with a time of 26.22.
Tulane continued to excite in the pole vault with Kristina Leggas vaulting to a height of 3.70m, good for a fourth place finish. Nastja Modic and Kate Sander tied for fifth with a height of 3.55m, earning Sander a new personal record.
Maren Butler threw for seventh place in the shot put with a distance of 13.26m. Melisa Toilolo's ninth place finish in the shot put was good for a new personal record and a seventh place spot in the Tulane record book with a distance of 12.95m.
For the third meet in a row, Nicole Phanuef earned a personal record in the 3000m with a time of 10:23.26, good for 12th place.
In the high jump, Olivia Hicks leaped to a height of 1.58m, earning points for the Green Wave with a fifth place showing.
To close out the afternoon, the 4x400m relay team of Louise Jones, Oneke Gwan, Asja Thompson and Hunter Robinson raced to fourth place with a time of 3:50.22.
