Track and Field Launches Outdoor Season at Jaguar Open

NEW ORLEANS —The Tulane University track and field team competes in their first outdoor meet of the 2021 season on Friday, March 5 in Mobile, Ala., at the Jaguar Open hosted by the University of South Alabama.
Tulane contends against seven other teams at Jaguar Track including Alabama, Dillard, Mobile, Point University, Troy, Tuskegee and South Alabama.
The meet will get underway Friday afternoon with the field events. The hammer throw will be the first event for the Green Wave at 2 p.m., followed by the high jump at 3 p.m.. The long jump will also begin at 3 p.m., with the triple jump beginning 30 minutes after. Next will be the pole vault at 4 p.m., and then the javelin and shot put at 5 p.m., respectively. Thirty minutes after the javelin, the discus will conclude the field events.
The track events will get underway at 5 p.m., for the Green Wave, beginning with the 100m hurdles. Next will be the 1500m, followed by the women's 400m at 6 p.m., with the men's 400m directly after. The women's 800m will be the next event. The 400m hurdles will start, followed by the women's 200m and the men's 200m. The final events of the meet for the Green Wave will be the women's 3000m and then the men's 3000m.
The Green Wave look forward to an exciting start to the outdoor season with a handful of newcomers on the team following last season's cancellation. Trina Malej took multiple wins in the triple jump for the indoor season so far and seeks to improve on her outdoor record from 2019 of 12.67m. Maya Harewood will compete in the 400m dash, an event that in the 2019 outdoor season, she raced for a new record of 53.67. Kyah Loyd will compete in the 100m hurdles where she holds a 2018 season record of 13.45 which ranks second in the Tulane record book.
