Women’s Tennis Drops Road Match at Mississippi State
Feb 14, 2021 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILE, Miss. – The Tulane women's tennis team suffered its second straight loss, 7-0, at unbeaten Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon at the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
The Green Wave (5-3) brought the fight to the Bulldogs (8-0) early in doubles with all three courts locked in tight scores. Despite sophomore Lahari Yelamanchili and freshman Charlotte Russell holding a 6-5 advantage on court three, Mississippi State was able to hold on for a pair of 6-4 wins on courts one and two, respectively, to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Tulane was unable to take back some early momentum in singles, as the Bulldogs claimed the first set on all six courts. Mississippi State would take the second set in five of the matches to clinch. Although graduate transfer Mary Caroline Meredith forced a third set on court one, she fell just shy in a 7-6 (4) defeat in the third set.
Next up, the Green Wave return home to host Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, February 20. The match will begin at noon at the City Park Tennis Center.
