Men's Tennis Set to Host No. 6 Texas

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team returns to action Saturday, February 27 to host sixth-ranked Texas. First serves are set for noon at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Longhorns (8-3) will be the highest-ranked team the Green Wave (6-3) have ever hosted in City Park and the highest-ranked opponent to come to New Orleans in more than 21 years.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane suffered its first home defeat of the season, 5-2, to No. 24 Mississippi State on Feb. 21. The Bulldogs won a tight doubles point via tiebreaker on court two, and despite No. 40 Hamish Stewart defeating No. 36 Giovanni Oradini in straight sets on court one, Mississippi State claimed a 4-1 lead to clinch the match. Freshman Rafael de Alba won in three sets on court six to earn the Green Wave's second point in the match.
SCOUTING TEXAS
The Longhorns play their first match in 13 days after suffering a 4-2 loss to No. 10 Tennessee in their final match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 14. Texas owns three ranked singles players led by No. 57 Siem Woldeab, No. 78 Micah Braswell and No. 120 Eliot Spizzirri. Braswell leads the team with a 23-2 overall record including an 8-1 mark this spring. In doubles, Woldeab and Payton Holden comprise the nation's 43rd-ranked duo.
LAST TIME THEY MET – MARCH 6, 2020
Tulane dropped the doubles point and the first three decisions in singles, as third-ranked Texas rolled to a 5-2 home victory in Austin. The Green Wave secured singles wins on courts one and six respectively, as No. 72 Ewan Moore upset No. 6 Christian Sigsgaard, 4-6, 7-6(8), 1-0(4) on court one. Akos Kotorman completed a 6-2, 7-5 win over Cleeve Harper on court six.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Green Wave possess two players listed in the ITA's national singles rankings, led by senior Hamish Stewart at No. 40 and fifth-year senior Ewan Moore at No. 53.
THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in eight of its nine matches this season and own a combined 19-4 overall record. Stewart and Moore are 8-1 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while freshman Billy Suarez and senior Akos Kotorman are 6-1 playing at the No. 2 position.
AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Hamish Stewart was selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 16 for the fourth time in his career after receiving the recognition once as a junior in 2020 and twice in 2019 as a sophomore.
