Feb 7, 2021 | Men's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. - The Tulane men's tennis team remained dominant in doubles and received a key lift from a trio of freshmen in singles in a 5-2 road victory over LSU on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The win was the Green Wave's first away from its home courts this spring and snapped the Tigers' seven-match winning streak to start the 2021 season. The Wave have also won five of the last six meetings against the Tigers.
Tulane (4-2) won the doubles point for the sixth straight match behind a 6-3 win by Akos Kotorman and Billy Suarez on court two before the senior duo of Ewan Moore and Hamish Stewart closed out a tough, 7-6(7) upset victory over the nation's 60th-ranked tandem on court one to give the Wave a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Moore and Stewart are now 6-0 this spring as a doubles unit playing on court one.
The Green Wave kept the pressure on LSU (7-1) early in singles as freshmen Fynn Kuenkler (6-2, 6-2) and Rafael de Alba (6-2, 6-1) won convincingly in straight sets on courts five and six, respectively. Fifth-year senior Luis Erlenbusch was close behind with the clinch, winning, 7-5, 6-1, on court three to extend the advantage to 4-0.
The Tigers got on the board with a win on court two, before Suarez earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory on court four for the Wave's fifth and final tally on the scoreboard.
Up next, Tulane heads to Tallahassee, Fla., for a pair of matches against Florida State and Miami (Fla.). The Green Wave faces the host Seminoles on Saturday, February 13, before facing the Hurricanes the following afternoon.
