Palacios Breaks School Record for Low Round at 64; Golf Places Third at the All State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Carlota Palacios broke the program record for the lowest single round with an 8-under 64 in the final round at the 2021 All State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate as the Tulane University women's golf team placed third on Tuesday.
Tulane posted the lowest team score of the tournament with a 3-under 285 in the final round Tuesday. Palacios placed second overall with for the tournament with an even-par 216. Her 8-under 64 was the lowest round by any player in the tournament this weekend. The Green Wave posted a total score of 900 over the three days.
"Today was a fun day for the team," Tulane head coach Stew Burke said. "They rebounded well from their first two days and really took care to manage their games in tough conditions. Any round around par was a great score, which makes Carlota's school record of 64 even more impressive. I'm proud of all of the team as playing at home has added importance and they represented our university to the highest standard."
Sophomore Carlota Palacios started the day off hot with a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole. She then birdied the par-4 10th to continue her great round. After four straight pars, Palacios registered three straight birdies on the par-5 15th, par-4 16th and par-3 17th.
The Vitoria, Spain, native logged pars on holes 18 and one before birdieing three of her last four holes. Palacios recorded four strokes on the par-5 second hole to start the hot streak. She then parred the par-3 third and reeled off birdies on the par-4 fourth and fifth holes to wrap up her record breaking round.
Palacios was 2-over 74 in the second round, with 17 pars for the round, and 6-over 76 in the first round. She birdied nine holes over the three-day event.
Senior Jennifer Rosenberg placed tied for 10th overall with a total score of 10-over 226. She posted her best round of the tournament with an even-par 72 in the final round. Rosenberg recorded five birdies in the final day giving her nine total for the tournament. The Laurel Hollow, N.Y., native registered a 2-over 74 and a 6-over 78 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Freshman Daozeng "Cleo" Liu also tied for 10th at 10-over 226. She finished strong with a 1-over 73 in the final round. Liu logged back-to-back birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-3 third holes on Tuesday. She finished the tournament with a team-high 10 total birdies. Liu went 4-over 76 in the first round and 5-over 77 in the second. This marked her season-best finish and score.
Sophomore Sandra Vazquez placed tied for 32nd with a total score of 15-over 231. She finished the tournament with a 5-over 77. Vazquez logged four birdies over the three rounds.
Junior Isabella Cardenas tied for 40th with a total score of 17-over 233. Her low-round came with a 5-over 77 in the second.
Freshman Hannah Rose Bruxvoort placed tied for 43rd. She recorded a 5-over 77 in the second round with three birdies.
Freshman Miriam Emmert had her best day of the tournament Tuesday at even-par 72. She logged four birdies on the day. The freshman finished tied for 48th overall.
Sophomore Hanna Liu rounded out the Tulane lineup tied for 53rd.
Nebraska won the tournament at 20-over 884, while Texas State finished as the runner-up at 27-over 891. Nebraska's Kate Smith took the individual title with a total score of 1-under 215.
Tulane will be back in action this weekend (March 19-21) as it travels to the Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Kansas State in Saddlebrook, Ariz.
