
Track and Field Set to Contend in Black and Gold Invitational

NEW ORLEANS —The Tulane track and field team travels to Orlando, Fla., for the first of two days of competition at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by UCF on Friday, March 19.
The meet will kick off Friday at 11 a.m., with the javelin and the pole vault, followed by the long jump and the hammer at 1 p.m. Next up will be the high jump at 3 p.m. After a break, track events will commence at 6 p.m. beginning with the 400m hurdles, and then the Green Wave will contend in the 200m at 6:25 p.m. The final event of the day will be the 5000m at 7:40 p.m.
Saturday morning, the meet will start back up at 9 a.m. with the discus. The triple jump is next for the Green Wave at 11 a.m., and then the shot put at noon. The first track event also starts at 11, which will be the 4x100m relay, followed immediately by the 3000m at 11:10. At 11:50, the Green Wave will compete in the 100m hurdles, and then the 400m at 12:20 p.m. Up next is the 800m at 1:20. The Green Wave's closing event for the weekend will be the 4x400m relay at 2:00.
The Green Wave strives for another successful weekend after coming off a win two weeks ago at their outdoor season opener at the Jaguar Open in Mobile, Ala. In addition to the team win, there were seven individual victories, plus plenty of new records. Nastja Modic is back competing in the pole vault after an exciting win last time out, nearly brushing her personal record of 4.07m with her impressive early season mark of 4.03m.
Migle Muraskaite had an electric weekend at the outdoor season opener, highlighted by her win in the long jump and epic performances in the javelin and shot put. Muraskaite comes back to compete in the 100m hurdles and multiple field events. Kristen O'Handley placed strong, earning a handful of points for the Green Wave with three top five finishes and will compete in multiple track and field events this weekend as well. Trina Malej recorded a win in the triple jump and comes back looking to best last week's mark of 12.63m.
