Women's Tennis Hosts Houston, Rice in City Park

NEW ORLEANS – Winners of eight straight at home dating back to last season, the Tulane women's tennis team hosts American Athletic Conference foe Houston on March 19 followed by another home contest against Rice on March 20.
The Green Wave (9-5) will face Houston on Friday at 2:30 p.m., before welcoming 34th-ranked Rice on Saturday at noon. Both matches will be played at the City Park Tennis Center.
SCOUTING HOUSTON
The Cougars (8-3) enter Friday's match with wins in four of their last five matches, including a 4-0 home win over Cincinnati in their most recent contest on March 16. Houston is 5-2 at home and 3-1 on the road this spring. Azul Pedemonti owns a 6-1 record this spring, as the Cougars are a combined 33-12 (.733) in singles matches in 2021. In doubles however, Houston is 12-12 in dual matches this season.
LAST TIME THEY MET - FEBRUARY 18, 2017
Tulane picked up its second straight win over Houston, 4-1, at the City Park Tennis Center. The Green Wave won the doubles points with victories on courts one and two, respectively, and despite the Cougars taking No. 1 singles, the Wave strung together three consecutive singles wins in straight sets on courts four, five and six to clinch.
SCOUTING RICE
The Owls (8-2) will host North Texas on Thursday before making the trip to New Orleans to face the Green Wave. Rice is riding a six-match winning streak, including a 4-1 home win over Memphis in their most recent outing on March 13. The Owls own an 8-0 record at home this spring, but are 0-2 on the road. Federica Trevisan leads the team with an 11-5 singles record, including an 8-1 mark this spring and a 7-0 ledger playing at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. In doubles, Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi are 11-6 overall, including a 7-2 record on court one.
LAST TIME THEY MET - MARCH 31, 2015
The Owls won the doubles point and picked up three singles wins for a 4-0 shutout win in Houston.
TULANE IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Green Wave sophomore Mackenzie Clark is ranked No. 108 in the ITA's national singles rankings to begin the season. In doubles, Clark and 2020 ITA All-American Mary Caroline Meredith comprise the nation's No. 54 duo.
THE DOUBLES POINT
The Green Wave are 9-2 this season when winning the doubles point and 0-3 when they do not. Tulane has won all three doubles matches on four occasions.

In accordance with current city and campus guidelines, Tulane Athletics is pleased to announce the accommodation of a limited number of fans attend Tulane tennis matches at the City Park Tennis Center. Fans are encouraged to bring their own bag chairs for seating. All spectators will be asked to remain six feet away from the courts at all times, respect social distancing rules, avoid gathering and remain six feet away from others. All spectators are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while inside City Park.
