Women's Tennis Heads to Birmingham to Face Samford, UAB

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team plays the first two matches of four straight on the road on a trip to Birmingham, Alabama to face Samford and UAB on March 6-7.
The Green Wave (7-3) will face Samford on Saturday at 1 p.m., before challenging UAB on Sunday at noon.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
The Bulldogs (5-5) play at Troy on Friday ahead of Saturday's match against the Wave, but have won three of their last four and own a 5-3 record at home this spring. Samford has two common opponents with Tulane in Mississippi State (lost, 7-0) and South Alabama (won, 6-1). Janse Van Rensberg leads the Bulldogs with a 7-3 singles mark this spring at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
LAST TIME THEY MET - FEBRUARY 9, 2020
The Green Wave won the doubles point with victories on courts two and three, before earning singles wins on courts one, two and four respectively. Adelaide Lavery and Lauren Gish won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, while Mackenzie Clark clinched with a three-set triumph, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5, against Van Rensburg at No. 1.

The Blazers (5-5) will host Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon before welcoming Tulane on Sunday, but have won three straight matches and own a 3-1 record at home this season. UAB shares three common opponents with the Green Wave in Mississippi State (lost, 7-0), Alabama (lost, 4-0) and South Alabama (lost, 4-1). The Blazers are led by Sydney Clarke's 10-4 overall record and 6-3 mark this spring which includes a 4-2 mark at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Annalisa Smith is 11-4 overall and 6-3 in dual matches including a 5-2 mark at the No. 6 position.
LAST TIME THEY MET - FEBRUARY 2, 2020
UAB won the doubles point, and despite wins by Lauren Gish at No. 4 and Mackenzie Clark at No. 1, the Blazers won four singles matches to complete a 5-2 road win over the Green Wave in City Park.

Tulane (7-3) claimed the doubles points with wins on courts two and three, before taking singles victories on courts two, three and four to outlast South Alabama, 4-2, on Feb. 28 in City Park.

Green Wave sophomore Mackenzie Clark is ranked No. 108 in the ITA's national singles rankings to begin the season. In doubles, Clark and 2020 ITA All-American Mary Caroline Meredith comprise the nation's No. 54 duo.
THE DOUBLES POINT
The Green Wave are 7-0 this season when winning the doubles point and 0-3 when they do not. Tulane has won all three doubles matches in four of the seven instances in which they clinch the first team point.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own bag chairs for seating. All spectators will be asked to remain six feet away from the courts at all times, respect social distancing rules, avoid gathering and remain six feet away from others. All spectators are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while inside City Park.
