Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Samford, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tulane women's tennis team collected its first road win of the 2021 season and its third straight overall in a 6-1 victory over Samford on Saturday afternoon.

The Green Wave (8-3) got off to a hot start in doubles, as Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell earned a 6-4 win on court three. Tied 5-5 on court two, the Green Wave clinched on court one when Mary Caroline Meredith and Mackenzie Clark closed out a 7-5 victory.

In singles, Tulane jumped all over the Samford (6-5) by winning five first sets. The Green Wave extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of straight set wins on courts three and four, as Adelaide Lavery defeated Alexis Lopez, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 before Kristen Borland cruised past Cindy Oest, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with a straight set win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, but Russell clinched a short while later with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory against Olivia Jablonski on court six.

Ranked No. 108 nationally, Mackenzie Clark gutted out a three-set win, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, over Natalia De Ugarte on court two, before Yelamanchili put the finishing touches on a 7-6(8), 7-5 victory over Samantha Nanere on court four.

Next up, the Green Wave head across town in Birmingham for a road match at UAB on Sunday at noon.
