Apr 1, 2021 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS —The Tulane track and field team heads to Birmingham, Alabama for their third outdoor meet of the season at the UAB Spring Invitational. The Green Wave will vie Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, to build on their early-season marks.
The meet will kick off Friday for the Green Wave with the javelin at 1 p.m. Next, at 2 p.m., will be the triple jump, followed by the shot put. The only track event of the day for the Green Wave will be the women's and men's 1500m run.
On Saturday morning, the meet will begin at 9 a.m., with the hammer throw. At 11 a.m. will be the high jump, followed by the long jump. At 2 p.m., will be the discus throw, and then the pole vault. That will close out the field events for the weekend.
Meanwhile, the track events will commence for the Green Wave at 12:30 p.m. with the 100m hurdles. Next up will be the 400m at 1:15 p.m., and the 800m at 2:30 p.m. Then the 400m hurdles will begin at 3 p.m., followed directly by the 200m at 3:30 p.m. The 4x400m relay will close out the weekend for the Green Wave at 4 p.m.
The Green Wave looks to come back strong after the Black and Gold Invitational on March 19-20 in Orlando, Florida. With this meet marking around the midway point for the outdoor season, the team looks for new personal records and marks to vault them into qualifying for NCAA Regionals at the end of May.
Tri Malej has won the triple jump at both outdoor meets this season and looks to come back this week to leap to another high mark. Malej was named the American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the week on March 24 and is ranked first in the NCAA East Region and third nationally for the 2021 outdoor season after a personal-best mark of 13.12m in Orlando.
Migle Muraskaite will compete in the shot put and 100m hurdles. Muraskaite has been consistently earning points for the Green Wave this outdoor season and at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational, secured a significant personal record of 14.36 in the 100m hurdles.
