No. 24 Men's Tennis Hosts Ranked Foes Wichita State, VCU for Senior Weekend

NEW ORLEANS - The 24th-ranked Tulane men's tennis team hosts its final two home matches of the 2021 season beginning Friday, April 9 against American Athletic Conference foe and 29th-ranked Wichita State at 1 p.m., at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (11-6) will then host Senior Day on Sunday, April 11 against 36th-ranked VCU at noon in City Park. A pre-match ceremony honoring four seniors will take place approximately 20 minutes before the match begins.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane split a pair of road matches in Florida against conference opponents USF and No. 13 UCF. The Wave earned a 4-3 win over the Bulls in Tampa on April 2, before falling to the Knights, 5-2, in a tight battle two days later in Orlando.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
The Shockers (14-5) enter Friday's match with wins in five straight, including a pair of home wins over No. 48 SMU (4-1) on April 2 and No. 28 Pepperdine (4-2) on April 4. Despite a 9-0 record at home, Wichita is just 1-4 in on the road this spring. The Shockers are led by Murkel Dellien's 10-2 singles record this spring which includes a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 spot in the lineup and a 3-1 ledger at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. In doubles, Dellien and Marius Frosa are ranked No. 72 nationally with an 8-3 record playing on court one.

Tulane collected its third straight win over the Shockers, 6-1, at the Goldring Tennis Complex.
SCOUTING VCU
The Rams (12-3) will play in Mobile, Ala., at South Alabama on Friday before heading to New Orleans. VCU had its four-match winning streak snapped with consecutive losses in its last two outings, including a 4-0 loss at No. 14 Wake Forest on April 4, before dropping a 4-3 decision at No. 33 Virginia Tech on April 7. In doubles, the Rams are led by the nation's 51st-ranked tandem Inigo Torre Martin and Rayane Stable.

Ranked 40th, Tulane lost in heartbreaking fashion, 4-3, to 11th-ranked VCU in the first round of the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala.

In the latest ITA team rankings released on April 7, the Green Wave are ranked No. 24 in the national poll. In the latest singles rankings unveiled March 30, senior Hamish Stewart is No. 29, while he and fifth-year senior Ewan Moore comprise the nation's No. 45 doubles tandem.
THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in 12 of its 17 matches this season and own a combined 29-16 (.644) overall record. Stewart and Moore are 10-6 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while freshman Billy Suarez and senior Akos Kotorman are 10-5 playing at the No. 2 position.
CAGING ALL TIGERS!
The Green Wave collected three consecutive wins over teams nicknamed "Tigers" when they defeated Memphis (4-0) on March 13, Auburn (4-3) on March 19 and LSU (6-1) on March 21.
BOORAS WINS NO. 150
In his 12th season at the helm of the program, director of tennis and head coach Mark Booras earned his 150th career victory in Tulane's 4-3 home win over Auburn on March 19.
AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Hamish Stewart was selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 16 for the fourth time in his career after receiving the recognition once as a junior in 2020 and twice in 2019 as a sophomore.
