Volleyball set to Host Olive and Blue Scrimmage Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University volleyball team will host its final tune-up before the start of the 2021 season on Saturday, August 14 when the team takes part in the annual Olive & Blue Scrimmage at 5 p.m. inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
This scrimmage is free to the public. Please note that in accordance with city and state guidelines, Tulane Athletics will require all attendees to wear facial coverings. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and worn while inside Fogelman in Devlin.Â
Tulane is coming off the unique 2020 season. Due to Covid-19 it was played in the Spring of 2021. The Green Wave went 10-10 in the regular season with an AAC mark of 7-4. In the 2020 Olivia and Blue match up, the Olive team swept the Blue team in the match, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-14. The Olive team hit .255 in the match, holding the Blue team to a .075 attack percentage. Then junior, right side hitter, Yvette Burcescu led the Olive squad with 12 kills, hitting .522 in the three-set match.
The squad returns 11 players from that team under sixth-year coach Jim Barnes, including five starters. The list includes two 2020 First Team All-American Athletic Conference selections, Lexie Douglas and Kayla Dinkins. The team also boasts second team selection, Sophia Ervanian. The 2018 Louisiana Freshman of the Year Makala Heidelberg is back for her final season with the Green Wave.Â

Tulane will officially open the season on Friday, Aug. 27, at 12:30 p.m. against the Northwestern State Demons at its own invitational. The team will also take on Alabama A&M and California in the two-day tournament.
