Russell and Yelamanchili Fall in Semifinals at ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – The run for the doubles duo of Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili for Tulane University women's tennis came to an end on Sunday in the semifinals of the doubles main draw at the ITA Southern Regional Championships. The pairing finished 1-1 on the day with a victory in the quarterfinals and 3-1 overall in the tournament.
In their first match of the day, Russell and Yelamanchili faced off against the Alabama duo of Kasia and Ola Pitak in the quarterfinals. The Green Wave duo continued its strong play in the tournament to earn an 8-3 victory and advance to the semifinals on the main draw.
Tulane's lead pair was matched up with a duo from in-state rival LSU, Anastasiya Komar and Nikita Vishwase, in the semifinals. Russell and Yelamanchili held an early lead in the first set before falling 4-6. With the momentum against them entering the second set, the Green Wave pair dropped the set 0-6 ending its journey in the semifinals of the main draw.
Saturday and Sunday also featured singles and doubles back draw matches for Tulane. The Wave earned 10 total wins in back draw matches with Cora Barber and Lily Walther leading the way with two victories each.
Up next, Tulane will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to compete in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by the University of Alabama October 28-29.
