
The Green Wave Returns Home for Another Weekend of Conference Play

NEW ORLEANS-Â The Tulane University volleyball team is eager to be back home this weekend for two inner conference games as it hosts the University of Tulsa and Wichita State University. The conference face-off will begin Friday, Oct. 21, inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Green Wave (6-13, 1-7 AAC) will first take on the University of Tulsa (9-10, 2-5 AAC) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before returning to the court to take on Wichita State University (10-8, 5-02 AAC) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.Â

RECAP-
The Green Wave fought hard last weekend but ended up dropping its first match in three sets to Memphis (21-25, 21-25, 19-25) on Friday and had the same outcome on Sunday, dropping its second match in three sets to Southern Methodist University by scores of (15-25, 16-25, 17-25).Â

The Olive and Blue showed its talents on the road in Memphis, TN. In its first weekend matchup against the University of Memphis, Outside hitter Mackenzie Martin led the Wave with 12 kills, hitting .273 overall. The sophomore also landed eight digs, totaling 12 points. Libero Jillian Dits took command on the defensive end with 15 digs, three receptions, and three assists. Senior setter Kate Van Houten moved the ball well, tallying 20 assists and three digs. The Green Wave concluded the match with 39 kills, 35 assists, two aces, 40 digs, three blocks, and a 34.9% passing rate.

Against the Mustangs in Dallas, TX, The Green Wave posted 26 kills, 21 assists, 2 aces, 47 digs, 2 blocks, and a 26% passing rate. Outside hitter Melissa Kolurbasi led the Wave with 9 kills, hitting .273 overall; the graduate student also landed four digs, totaling 9.5 points. Libero Jillian Dits carried the defensive with 16 digs, one reception, and an assist. Senior setter Kate Van Houten tallied 11 assists and eight digs in the match.

The University of Tulsa is currently 9-10 this season and ranked eighth in the AAC standings. The Golden Hurricane suffered two conferences losses last week, dropping a five-set match to Wichita State (10-8) on Wednesday the 12th, followed by a 3-1 loss (21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 20-25) to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday the 16th.

Wichita State holds a 10-8 record on the 2022 campaign and is ranked fourth in the AAC standings. The Shockers secured two conference wins for their season last week against the University of Tulsa (9-10) and Cincinnati (5-13). Wichita pulled through and came out victorious against Tulsa in a five-set match 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 15-12 on Wednesday the 12th, and picked up their first conference road win of the season against Cincinnati 25-21, 26-28, 25-20, 25-21 on Friday the 14th. The Shocker will face Huston (17-2) on Friday the 21st before traveling to New Orleans to take on the Green Wave on the 23rd.Â
