WOMEN'S RESULTS
Tulsa, Okla. – The Tulane University cross country teams both had strong showings at the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championships at Mohawk Park on Friday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The women's team placed fourth overall and were led by All-AAC selection Mackenzie Callahan. The men's program earned fifth place and were led by a pair of All-AAC selections in Bradley Makuvire and Aaron Gilliam.
"As a competitor you always want more, but all progress is good progress", explained head coach Adrian Myers. "Today we went out and proved that we have one of the three or four best programs in the conference. The league is so close at the top that there really isn't much separation from second to fourth place. All in all, it was the best performance from the women so far this season and it is great momentum to take with us into the NCAA Regionals. On the men's side we may have pushed the training a bit too much this last week in preparation for the upcoming 10k regionals. The good news is they hung tough and competed hard before faltering a bit over the final two kilometers, but I think the backend of this will be rewarded in two weeks. I am very proud of the progress of the program. Last year, before the AAC Championships, we said that we can't close the gate on the leak – meaning we can't be last anymore. We narrowly made our goal by finishing 11th on both the men's and women's side. This year to even be as close to the top-three in the conference or even the top two programs at different points throughout the race confirms we belong and are closer to being the type of program that we know we can be. Today's races are a testament to what we are doing here in bringing in the right student-athletes, the right coaches and the investments that have been made by all in our program. The future is bright for Green Wave Cross Country and Track & Field and this is just the start."
The women's team totaled 120 points on the day to finish fourth in the 6k race. Callahan finished seventh among all 94 runners with her time of 21:07. She averaged 5:39.7 per mile. Sophia McNerney placed 20th with a 21:52.3 and her average of 5:51.8. Danna Diaz was 24th with her 21:54.3 and average mile time of 5:52.4. Allison Nelson earned 31st place with a 22:20.2 and an average mile time of 5:59.3. Lilian Grace placed 38th with a 22:33.6 and an average mile time of 6:02.9. Harper Shaw was 42nd with a 22:41.0 and an average mile time of 6:04.9. Victoria Robinson was 67th with her 23:18.6 and 6:14.9 average mile time. Macy Turcotte finished 68th with a 23:19.0 and average mile time of 6:15.1. Reese Ragland was 71st with a 23:34.3 and average mile time of 6:16.5.
The men's team finished fifth on the afternoon with 113 points in the 8k race. Makuvire was fourth with his 24:03.4 and average mile time of 4:50.4 among 77 runners. Aaron Gilliam finished 13th with a 24:26.1 and average mile time of 4:55.0. Evans Kipchumba was 17th with his 24:39.8 and average mile time of 4:57.7. Arturs Lapins placed 42nd with a 25:37.5 and average mile time of 5:09.4. Kyle Johnson was 46th with a 25:43.3 and average mile time of 5:10.5. Tucker Poschard was 62nd with a 26:35.9 and average mile time of 5:21.1. Charlie McLawhorn was 64th with a 26:47.0 and average mile time of 5:23.3.
