Tulane Rolls Past Loyola in Exhibition Matchup

NEW ORLEANS –Tulane University women's basketball rode hot shooting from beyond the arc to begin its 2022-23 season on a high note with an 88-53 exhibition win over Uptown rival Loyola-New Orleans Tuesday evening inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Four players scored in double figures for the Green Wave as veteran Dynah Jones led the way with 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore Kierra Middleton followed with an impressive shooting performance going 3-of-4 from downtown and posting 15 points. Rounding out the top scorers for the Olive and Blue were Marta Galic with 11 and Kyren Whittington with 10.
As a team, Tulane put on a shooting clinic from three-point land hitting at a 56-percent clip (14-of-25) in the game. Kahia Warmsley took command of the offense for the Green Wave as she dished out a career-best 10 assists. On the glass, Anijah Grant led all players with 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
On the defensive end of the floor, the Wave held the Wolf Pack to just 27.1 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc. Warmsley (3) and Jones (2) each swiped multiple steals while McKenzi Carter registered a pair of blocks.
Loyola put the first points of the game on the board as both teams went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Middleton drained her second triple of the quarter in the final minute to give Tulane the lead 18-16 at the end of the opening 10 minutes.
Tulane opened the second quarter with a 12-0 run propelled by nine straight points from Jones in the first four minutes. The Green Wave doubled up the Wolf Pack in the frame by shooting 5-of-6 from beyond the arc to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
The hot shooting night rolled into the second half for the Wave as the team shot 69.2 percent from the field in the third quarter to push its lead to as many as 29. Eight different players contributed to a 28-point output in the quarter as Tulane carried a 66-40 lead into the final frame.
A pair of new faces paced the Olive and Blue in the fourth quarter to close out the game as freshman Jaylee Womack scored eight points and transfer Kyren Whittington poured in seven of her own. Tulane finished with 22 points in the frame to close out the exhibition victory over Loyola 88-53.
Up next, the Green Wave will open the 2022-23 regular season slate as it welcomes Grambling State to Uptown Monday, November 7. Tulane and the Tigers will tipoff at 4 p.m. inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
