
Tulane Beach Volleyball Goes 2-0 on First Day Of Green Wave Invitational

RESULTS
NEW ORLEANS — Tulane beach volleyball started their season with two victories on day one of the Green Wave Invitational at the White Sands Volleyball Courts on Friday.
Tulane matched up with the No.17 Georgia State Panthers first this morning, taking the match 3-2. The victory would mark the first time since Apr. 9, 2016 that the Green Wave defeated the Panthers.
Haley Gibson and Savka Popovic teamed up on court five to give the Green Wave their first match victory of the season. They defeated Georgia State's Hatchett and Johnson 21-12, 21-15 to get things rolling for the Wave.
Ashton Mares and Sara Hall paired up on court three for the next Tulane point. They would put away the Panthers duo of Kleespies and Tresham 21,18 and 21-16.
From the No. 1 position, Kendall Peters and Maddie Speicher notched a three-set win with 21-19, 11-21, 15-10 against the top pair from Georgia State of Hawes and Kuck.
In the afternoon, Tulane swept Spring Hill College 5-0.
No. 1 pair Peters and Speicher defeated Spring Hill's Fairly and Fairly 21-9, 21-19. On court two Samantha Mehlman and Lara Torruella defeated Donner and Beyer in a quick 21-16, 21-13 match.

Mares and Hall took Spring Hill's Shappel and Sorrell to three sets, coming from behind to win the first 21-18 and dropping the second 18-21. In a hard-fought third set, Tulane would take the match on an error from Spring Hill.

Court four also went into three sets. Josie Cole and Sam Green battled it out against Borgmeyer and Weinzapfel 21-18, 18-21 in the first two sets. The deciding set was no problem for the Green Wave duo as they put it away 15-5.

Tulane's fifth pair had no problem defeating the fifth pair of Spring Hill College. Popovic and Gibson would take the match with a decisive 21-12, 21-11.
In an exhibition match against Spring Hill, freshman Ainsley Patrick and Izzy Mitchell would earn a match victory. The pair took on Spring Hill's Atchison and Harris, defeating them 21-18, 21-19.
