Tulane Women’s Tennis Sweeps USF to Win Third-Straight Match

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team earned its third consecutive win as it swept past South Florida 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center. The Green Wave claimed the doubles point to get the day started before carrying the momentum into singles action to secure three wins and a match victory.
With the win, Tulane evened the all-time series against USF 5-5 and snapped a three-match losing streak against the Bulls. The Wave also improved to 7-3 on the season including a 6-1 record at home.
The duo of Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu got the Wave off to a strong start rolling to a 6-1 victory on court three. Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili followed by improving their record to 9-1 in doubles play with a win on court one 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for the Green Wave.
Moving into singles play, Russell was the first to add another point for Tulane with a two-set victory on court five. Brooke Theis stepped up to give the Wave a 3-0 lead with a two-set victory of her own on court six. While Lavery, Mackenzie Clark and Kristen Borland continued to battle in the third set of each of their matches Yelamanchili closed the door on the Bulls clinching the match for Tulane with a 7-6, 6-4 win.
Up next, the Green Wave will host another AAC foe as SMU visit New Orleans on Tuesday, March 15. The match between Tulane and the Mustangs is set for 2 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
