Tulane Men’s Tennis Takes Down Penn State, 4-3
Mar 13, 2022 | Men's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 62 Tulane University men's tennis earned a hard-fought victory over Penn State 4-3 Sunday to finish 2-1 at the Arizona State Spring Break Tournament. The Green Wave posted back-to-back wins in the tournament and improves to 6-7 on the season.
"Thanks to Arizona State and Coach Hill for putting on a fantastic event," head coach Mark Booras said. "We had a very tough weekend with three down-to-the-wire matches. Today's last match against Penn State really shows how our guys are developing and how they believe in themselves, as we were down huge at #1, #5, #6 singles and found a way to gut out all three to comeback for the team victory."
Despite getting the first win of the day in doubles from Fynn Kuenkler and Luc Hoeijmans, the Green Wave dropped on courts one and three to lose the doubles point.
Tulane rebounded in singles play as Luka Petrovic quickly tied the score 1-1 with a two-set victory on court three. Penn State responded with wins on courts two and four to retake the lead, but the Wave did not waver. Alex Bancila delivered a hard-fought three-set win on court five before Kuenkler tied the score again with three-set win of his own on court one. The match came down to a third and final set on court six and Charlie Barry battled it out winning in three sets to clinch the win for Tulane 4-3.
Up next, the Green Wave returns to New Orleans to host American Athletic Conference foe Memphis on Friday, March 18. The match between Tulane and the Tigers is set for 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
