Tulane Women’s Tennis Heads to Houston for a Pair This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis travels to Houston this weekend to face the Houston Cougars and No. 47 Rice. The Green Wave will look to bounce back after a hard-fought loss to No. 54 SMU and improve upon its 7-4 record this season.
The match with the Cougars is set for 1 p.m. CT Saturday at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Facility. Tulane will then square off with the Rice Owls Sunday at 11 a.m. CT at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Green Wave holds a 7-6 advantage in the all-time series against Houston despite losing the last two meetings with the Cougars. Tulane is 3-2 against Houston away from New Orleans but is 1-2 in Houston. The last time the Wave defeated the Cougars came on February 18, 2017, as Tulane topped Houston 4-1 in New Orleans.
Tulane trails the all-time series against Rice 1-8 and is 1-3 against the Owls in Houston. The Wave has lost the last eight meetings with Rice including a narrow 4-3 loss last season on March 20, 2021. The last time Tulane defeated the Owls came in the first meeting on March 19, 2005, when the Green Wave beat Rice 4-3 in Houston.
The Green Wave is led on the doubles courts by the pairing of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell. The duo holds a 10-1 record this season with wins in their last five matches. The new pairing of Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu is off to a strong start for Tulane as well posting wins in two of their first three matches together.
In singles action the Wave is paced by Yelamanchili and Russell each with an 9-1 record. Sophomore Cora Barber is also off to a strong start on the singles courts as she is a perfect 4-0 to start the year.
Following its weekend in Houston, the Green Wave will return to New Orleans for a doubleheader against Nicholls and New Orleans on Wednesday, March 23. The match between Tulane and the Colonels is set for 11 a.m. CT while the match against the Privateers will start at 3 p.m. CT.
