Tulane Women’s Tennis Tops North Texas in Final Home Match, 5-2

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis picked up its third-straight victory as it defeated North Texas 5-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave started hot by taking the doubles point and rode that momentum to claim the first three points in singles play to secure the win over the Mean Green.
With the win, Tulane improves to 10-6 overall on the season and 9-2 in home matches on the year. The victory also gave the Wave a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series against North Texas.
The Green Wave duo of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell improved to 12-2 on the season by picking up the first win of doubles action over the No. 78 doubles pair in the nation to start the match. Moments later the pairing of Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu clinched the doubles point for the Wave with a 6-4 win on court three.
Russell carried the momentum into singles play for Tulane by earning the Green Wave's second point of the match with a two-set victory on court five 6-3, 7-5. Lavery kept the energy rolling in the Wave's favor picking up a two-set victory of her own 6-4, 6-3 to put Tulane up 3-0. After coming from behind to win her first set 7-5, Yelamanchili secured the match victory for the Green Wave with a 6-2 win in her second set. North Texas managed to pick up a pair of points after the match was clinched by Tulane, but Zhu put a cap on the day with the fifth point for the Wave by winning a 10-point tiebreak for her third set.

Up next, the Green Wave will travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to face Florida State on Saturday, April 2. The match between Tulane and the Seminoles is set for 11 a.m. CT.
