Tulane Women’s Tennis Drops on the Road to No. 40 Florida State
Apr 2, 2022 | Women's Tennis
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Tulane University women's tennis fell to No. 40 Florida State 4-1 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave earned the doubles point to take the early lead over the Seminoles but were unable to fend off FSU in singles as the Wave lost all four decisions on the singles courts.
With the loss, Tulane drops to 10-7 on the season and now holds a 1-5 mark in road matches this year.
The Green Wave got off to a strong start against the Seminoles by earning the doubles point in quick fashion. The pairing of Mackenzie Clark and Kristen Borland picked up the first win for Tulane with a 6-2 victory on court two. Shortly after the duo of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell improved to 13-2 on the season with a 6-4 win on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Wave.
Momentum changed in singles action as Florida State began to find success against the Green Wave. Clark and Yelamanchili battled a pair of nationally ranked players for the Seminoles, but FSU finished on the winning side of both matches taking the lead 2-1. Tulane went on to drop matches on courts five and four in two sets eventually losing the overall match 4-1.
Up next, the Green Wave will travel to Memphis, Tennessee, where it will face Cincinnati on Saturday, April 9, and Memphis on Sunday, April 10. The match between Tulane and the Bearcats is set for 10 a.m. CT Saturday while the matchup against the Tigers is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT Sunday.
