
Wave Hosts Southern Miss for Second Midweek Clash of Season

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (24-12-1) will host the No. 6 University of Southern Mississippi (27-8) on Tuesday inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.Â

The Green Wave will look to bounce back against a red-hot Southern Miss. team after dropping two of three over the weekend against Houston.Â

The Green Wave will look to bounce back against a red-hot Southern Miss. team after dropping two of three over the weekend against Houston.Â

 THE MATCHUP
- First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
- The matchup can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM.
- Tulane leads the all-time series 91-62.
- The two clubs faced each other on March 9th in Hattiesburg where the Golden Eagles won 7-2.
HIGHLIGHTING THE WAVE
- Tulane is 7-3 in midweek games.
- The Wave hit .277 as a group and the pitching staff carries a 4.53 ERA.
- The hitters have notched 94 doubles as a team, second in the nation.
- Redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff has a .422 batting average, the ninth highest mark in the country. Groff is also in the top 30 in the nation in on-base percentage (.503) and slugging percentage (.727).
- Freshman Grant Siegel (6-1) has led the pitching staff, posting a 2.15 ERA over 46.0 innings of work. Siegel has 47 strikeouts while allowing just eight walks.Â
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
- Southern Miss. has won nine games in a row and currently sits atop the Conference USA standings with a 13-2 conference record.
- The Golden Eagles hit .281 as a team and have a 2.78 ERA as a staff, the second lowest mark in the country behind only Tennessee.
- Sophomores Dustin Wilkerson and Slade Wilks, and junior Reece Ewing, have started all 35 games and all hit above .300 with 40+ hits and 20+ RBIs.
- Sophomore Tyler Stuart (2-0) has started the last two midweek games for the Golden Eagles but has only pitched five total innings.Â
- Southern Miss. has thrown 12 pitchers in its last two midweek clashes.
LAST TIME OUT
- Tulane won on Saturday in a 11-10 shootout but dropped Friday and Sunday's contests in Houston this past weekend.Â
- Groff went 8/14 in the series, including two home runs and a triple.
- Freshman Chandler Welch, Tuesday's probable starter, pitched four innings of one-hit, no-run ball in Friday's loss.
