May 18, 2022 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University sailing COED team finished eighth in the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Team Race National Championship Wednesday on Lake Pontchartrain. The Green Wave posted an overall record of 9-13 across the three-day regatta.
Tulane was represented in the regatta by the pairings of skipper Thad Lettsome and crew Grace Siwicki, skipper Cameron Giblin and crew Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez, and skipper Asher Zittrer and crew Gillian Perrell.
On the first day of the championship chase the Wave posted a 3-3 record to hold strong in the top eight in the field. Tulane secured wins over Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and College of Charleston.
The second day of the regatta got off to a slow start for Tulane as the Green Wave dropped its first three races of the day. The Wave bounced back in a big way to close the day and the first stage of the regatta by winning each of its last six races. Tulane defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, UC Santa Barbara, Dartmouth College, Georgetown, and Tufts. The six-race win streak to finish the first stage of the regatta vaulted the Green Wave back up the standing to advance to stage two – Gold Eight.
Tulane battled tough competition all day in the top eight of the regatta on day three. The Green Wave ultimately finished the ICSA Team Race National Championship with a 9-13 to post a top eight finish.
Up next, the Green Wave will be right back in action Tuesday to begin the ICSA Open Dinghy semifinals. Tulane will race in the eastern semifinals as the seven seed. The semifinals will run Thursday and Friday, May 19-20, with the finals to follow Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.
