
Track & Field Restarts Indoor Campaign with Trip to Kentucky this Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – After a break for the holidays, the Tulane indoor track & field program restarts the 2022-23 season with a trip to Lexington, Kentucky to participate in the Rod McCravy Memorial from January 13-14 at the Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Friday's events start for Tulane at 1:30 p.m. with the women's high jump. Saturday's day begins for the Green Wave with the shot put at 12 p.m.
The program is expected to send Victoria Robinson (600m,400m and 4x400m), Abigail Heck (600m, 400m and 4x400 relay), Alexis Esteves (600m, 400m and 4x400 relay), Janae Dean (600m, 400m, 4x400 relay), Allison Nelson (mile and 4x400 relay), Mackenzie Callahan (mile and 4x400 relay), Macy Turcotte (3,000k), Reese Ragland (mile and 4x400 relay), Sophia McNerney (3,000k), Lilian Grant (3,000k), Megan Fitzgerald (pole vault), Cosette Fleury (pole vault), Kristina Leggas (pole vault), Kate Sander (pole vault), Alexandra Potts (pole vault), Maren Butler (shot put), Kara Steele (triple jump), Patricija Ozolina (long jump, 60m hurdles and high jump), Kaia Todd (triple jump and 60m hurdles) and Norah Brice (TBD) to the meet.
The other schools at the meet are Kentucky, Alabama State, Butler, Campbellsville, Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky, Grambling, Howard, Kennesaw State, Life, Midway, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio State, Transylvania and Union.
The field events on Friday start at 1:30 p.m. with the women's high jump. The track events on the opening day for Tulane begin at 4:40 p.m. with the first round of the 60m hurdles. Saturday's field events start at 12 p.m. with the women's shot put. The women's track event are set to begin at 12:20 pm. for Tulane with the semifinals of the women's 60m hurdles.
Tulane currently is ranked in the top-10 in the South Central Regional in the men's 400m (Francisco Roman – 8th), men's 800m (Jalen St. Fort – 2nd, Roman Schrader – 4th, Bethwel Tum - 5th, Iker Yturralde – 9th), women's 800m (Victoria Robinson – 2nd, Janae Dean - 3rd, Abigail Heck – 5th, Alexis Esteves – 7th), the men's mile (Jamie Polakoff – 3rd), the women's mile (Reese Ragland – 2nd, Ashley Horwitz – 3rd, Brianna Kirsch – 4th, Brenda Ellis – 5th), the women's 60m hurdles (Kristen O'Handley – 2nd and Kaia Todd – 5th), the men's 4x400 relay (2nd), the women's 4x400 relay (2nd), men's pole vault (Parker Samuelson – 5th), the women's pole vault (Kristina Leggas – 3rd, Megan Fitzgerald – 4th, and Kate Sander – 4th), women's triple jump (Kara Steele – 1st and Kaia Todd – 3rd) and the women's shot put (Maren Butler – 2nd, Margot Temines – 6th, Alyssa Dismuke – 7th, Norah Brice – 9th and Bella Gonzalez – 10th).
Last time out at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker, the team totaled four event wins and 24 top-10 finishes on the afternoon.
Kristen O'Handley won the 60m hurdles with an 8.56. She also finished sixth in the high jump (1.60m).
Victoria Robinson won the 800m with a 2:14.11. Janae Dean finished just behind her in second (2:14.12). Abigail Heck placed fifth (2:21.37).
Reese Ragland won the mile (5:06.25). Ashley Horwitz placed fourth (5:18.65). Brianna Kirsch ranked sixth (5:24.05) with Brenda Ellis taking ninth (5:29.07).
Alexandra Potts won the pole vault (3.85m). Kristina Leggas finished seventh (3.55m) with Megan Fitzgerald earning 10th (3.40m).
Kara Steele finished as the runner-up in the triple jump (12.05m) with teammate Kaia Todd placed eighth (11.42m).
Maren Butler took third in the shot put (13.81m), while Margot Temines earned 10th (11.86m)
Other top-10 finishes for Tulane include Jalen St. Fort (4th – 800m – 1:54.73), Roman Schrader (5th – 800m – 1:56.90), Bethwel Tum (10th – 800m – 1:59.38), Jamie Polakoff (7th – mile – 4:34.61) and Patricija Ozolina (7th – high jump – 1.55m).
Tulane had a pair of All-Conference AAC members last year as Fitzgerald ranked third in the pole vault and Temines had the top heptathlon mark in the state and third-best at the meet with her 5,413 points at the championship.
Next, the program travels to Birmingham, Alabama for the Samford Invitational from Jan. 20-21 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
