
Track & Field Wins a Pair of Events at the Samford Invitational

Birmingham, Alabama – The Tulane indoor track & field program had a strong showing with a pair of event wins, six top-three finishes and 19 that placed in top-10 on Friday at the Samford Invitational at Birmingham CrossPlex.
Kristen O'Handley carried over her strong performance in winning the pentathlon yesterday in the Samford Multis, a school record point total of 3,915, by earning the individual victory in the 60m hurdles with an 8.55 on Friday.
Victoria Robinson also earned an individual victory with a 2:12.53 in the 800m. She was followed in the standings of the event by Janae Dean, who placed second, with a 2:13.85. Abigail Heck finished fifth in the event with a 2:19.65.
Aaron Gilliam highlighted the men in finishing as the runner-up in the 800m with a 1:54.95.
Kara Steele finished second in the triple jump with a 12.02m. Kaia Todd placed seventh in the event with a 10.98m. Shamiso Zihumo placed ninth with her 10.41m.
Alexandra Potts finished third in the pole vault with a 3.88m. Megan Fitzgerald placed fifth (3.73m). Kristina Leggas was eighth (3.58m).
The 4x400m relay team of O'Handley, Robinson, Dean and Heck placed fourth in their event with a 3:53.35.
Sophia McNerney earned fifth for Tulane in the mile (4:56.98). Reese Ragland placed seventh in the same event (5:00.92).
Maren Butler took home sixth in the shot put with a 14.86m. The throw was a career-high and ranks her second in the event in school history.
Margot Temines was seventh in the high jump (1.60m).
Parker Samuelson placed seventh in the men's pole vault with a 4.63m.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Bethwel Tum, Roman Schrader, Jalen St. Fort and Gilliam finished eighth in their event (3:29.95).
Arturs Lapins finished eighth in the mile for the men with his 4:21.56.
Next, the program travels to Boston for a pair of meets in the city. The program sends a delegation to compete in the Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational on the campus of Boston University starting on Feb. 3. The program will also send a group to participate in the Crimson Elite at Harvard University that same weekend.
