Nov 21, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – Tulane University men's basketball (3-1) came up shy in its comeback bid against Bradley (4-0) 80-77 dropping its first game of the season Monday night at the SoCal Challenge. Despite early foul trouble and a tough shooting night from beyond the arc the Green Wave battled to the final buzzer with multiple opportunities to tie the game.
With the loss, Tulane drops to 3-1 on the season and moves into the consolation game of the SoCal Challenge on Wednesday night.
Jaylen Forbes led four players with double figures in scoring with 17 points to go with three rebounds and a pair of steals. Forbes did most of his damage in the first half with 13 points before the break and at the free throw line where he shot 8-of-11. His 17-point performance moved him into 10th on the all-time scoring list at Tulane with 1,465 career points surpassing Jim Kerwin (1,462) for the Green Wave.
Kevin Cross and Sion James each added 14 points, three assists, and two steals for the Wave. Cross also led the team on the glass with eight rebounds. Kolby King was the final player in double figures for Tulane with 10 points and a pair of steals.
The Braves finished with five players in double digits led by Malevy Leons with 18 points. Bradley also beat the Wave in the battle on the boards 37-30 including 15 offensive rebounds.
After the first points of the game went to the Braves, the Green Wave responded to take the early advantage 12-7 at the first media timeout. Tulane controlled the lead through most of the first half with its largest lead, 31-25, coming with 3:43 on the clock. However, Bradley made a late 9-0 run putting the Wave down 40-36 at the half.
