
Women’s Basketball Off To Missouri For Friday Road Game Against Missouri State

New Orleans, Louisiana – Tulane's women's basketball team (3-3) wraps up its four-game road trip over these last two weeks and heads to Springfield, Missouri to take on Missouri State (2-2) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Southern Bank Arena. The game will be shown live on ESPN+ while Paul Boron has the radio call on 88.3 FM or the Varsity Network App.
Last time out, Tulane lost to No. 9 Virginia Tech by a 76-70 score in the team's second game at the Cayman Islands Classic on Nov. 25. The program played well against the nationally ranked Hokies and led at half and tied the game up with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Kyren Whittington led the team with her 26 points against Virginia Tech. It was her second time scoring 20 or more points this season. The program fell to Virginia by an 81-59 score to start the tournament with Hannah Pratt leading the club with her 15 points. Whittington also reached double figures with 12 points. Following the conclusion of the tournament, Pratt was named to the Cayman Islands Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.5 points per game.
Missouri State lost their last game to Oklahoma State on the road on Sunday by a 82-51 score. The program's two victories this season have come against future Tulane opponent Little Rock by a 52-47 score to open the season and to Southeastern Missouri by a 74-66 tally on Nov. 22. The Bears have started well in the first quarter this season as they have outscored their opponents by a 61-47 margin. The team also holds a 72-62 lead in the third quarter. Lacy Stokes has led the offensive attack for the Bears with her average of 11.3 points per game. She is also the club leader with 15 assists. Indya Green sports an average of 9.3 points a contest. Kennedy Taylor totals an average of 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Angel Scott has been the squad's best three-point shooter at 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Bears were picked for fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) this season.
The all-time series between the schools is tied at one all. Missouri State won the first matchup on Dec. 4, 2000 by a 67-61 margin. Tulane took the second game of the series the following year with a 49-46 victory on Dec. 5, 2001. Tulane is 7-3 all-time against current schools in the MVC. Coach Stockton is 6-2 all-time against current MVC foes since starting at Tulane.
The Green Wave, under the leadership of Coach Stockton, were picked for sixth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) this season. The team went 18-14 last year and had a mark of 7-9 in AAC play. Coach Stockton is in her 30th year at the helm of Tulane. The program returns eight players from last season's roster for the 2023-24 season including 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team selection Kyren Whittington. The Green Wave have added two freshmen, center Lily Ba and point guard Joy Madison-Key, along with graduate transfer forward Hannah Pratt and graduate transfer guard Kaylah Rainey. Last season, Tulane was selected for a WNIT post season appearance for the third consecutive year. Coach Stockton also became the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in the state of Louisiana during the campaign and was elected to the CUSA Hall of Fame over the summer. The team's top returner scorers from last season are Kyren Whittington and Marta Galic. Both averaged 11.9 points per game. Galic also led the team in rebounding a year ago with her average of 6.7 rebounds a game.
Next, Tulane returns home to host UNO on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. at Devlin Fieldhouse.
