
Tulane Cross Country Claims Top Awards for 2023 All-Louisiana Team

NEW ORLEANS – Eight runners for Tulane University cross country were honored by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Monday. Senior Bradley Makuvire and junior Gemma Rebollo were each named Runner of the Year while director of cross country/track and field Adrian Myers was selected as the Women's Coach of the Year.
The Green Wave placed a combined total of eight members on the 2023 LSWA All-Louisiana teams with Makuvire one of five Tulane runners on the men's team with Rebollo leading a trio of women's runners on the seven-member squad.
The 14-member team was recognized based off top times (8-kilometers for men, 6-kilometers for women) submitted to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
Makuvire was joined on the seven-member men's team by teammates Illia Kunin, Jack Jennings, Ryan Adkins and Alan Deogracias III. Rebollo was joined on the women's team by Green Wave teammates Danna Diaz and Lily Bell.
Makuvire, a native of Zvishavane, Zimbabwe, qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season for Tulane. He posted his best performance at the NCAA Championships finishing 82nd overall with a time of 30:24.0 in the 10K.
He set the Tulane record in the 10K by running his personal best 29:25.1 to finish sixth at the South Central Regional and broke his own and Tulane's 8K record at the AAC Championships finishing fourth in the meet with a total time of 22:55.6.
Rebollo, from Altorreal Molina De Segura, Spain, helped Tulane win its first Women's Cross Country conference title in program history. She became the first individual champion for Tulane in the Women's Cross Country AAC Championships and was 15th overall at the South Central Regional to help the Green Wave finish a program-best fourth overall team finish.
She clocked a personal-best time in the 6K and broke the Tulane record by finishing 19:58.3 at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational while claiming the UNO XC Opener 5K title with a time of 13:42.97.
Myers was named the LSWA Women's Coach of the Year after leading Tulane to its first AAC Women's Cross Country Championship.
Under his direction, the Green Wave women's team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the South Central Region with the men's team ranked as high as No. 3. He helped six athletes earn All-Region honors and seven land All-AAC selections.
