Titans Hand Wave Fourth Loss
Feb 22, 2023 | Baseball
FULLERTON, CA – Cal State Fullerton's Maddox Latta ripped a game-winning RBI single to right field to lift the host Titans to a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Tulane Tuesday evening at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.
Â
Tulane stayed winless at 0-4 on the season, while the Titans evened their record at 2-2 with the victory.
Fullerton's Fynn Chester hurled clean eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first win (1-0). Tulane's Blake Mahmood was tagged with the loss (0-1) after giving up the game-winning run on three hits to go with a strikeout and walk.
Green Wave catcher Brennan Lambert went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Right fielder Jake LaPrairie also went 2-for-4.
The Titans' Colby Wallace, Moises Guzman, Brendan Bobo and Latta all collected two hits. Latta also drove in a pair and Bobo scored three times.
Tulane got off to a hot start with solo homers by Lambert and left fielder Jackson Linn, respectively, to grab a 2-0 lead through two innings.
Fullerton then came back with three in the bottom of the second, but the Green Wave evened the contest in the top of the third with a ground-rule double to right field by first baseman Brayden Morrow.Â
The Tulane bats were quiet until the seventh frame when shortstop Gavin Schulz tied it at 4 on a single to right field. Second baseman Michael Lombardi later scored on a double play ball to push the Wave back in front, 5-4.
The Green Wave used fifth pitchers in the last two frames but it wasn't enough to thwart Fullerton's comeback.
